Dumpling restaurants began to become a phenomenon a few years ago, and with the constant opening or closing of restaurants, they became more and more popular. Most restaurants are located downtown, but one of them decided to open its doors in La Prairie, a few blocks from Brossard.
My family and I decided to give it a try. As we arrived to destination, we had to take our COVID precautions (hand washing before sitting down, wearing masks and making sure our table isn't too close to others'). I was quite pleased by the environment. It reminded me of those traditional Chinese TV series where there's wood-carved screens, lanterns and murals depicting traditions. It made it different from just tables and chairs and contemporary design and helped us travel to China for the time of a meal.
The food? We tried different types of dumplings, a chicken broth noodles, spring rolls and Shanghai fried noodles. The noodles were pretty tasty (the broth was different from just MSG or chicken powder), but the Shanghai Noodles were a bit disappointing. We thought they'd have more of a Chinese twist, but they rather was more suitable to caucasians. As for the dumplings, they were fine, but not special. The dough was a bit too overcooked though. Spring rolls were just normal, not surprising.
I guess we went for the experience, and had a great one. Otherwise (or perhaps because of my picky taste), the food was average. If you'd like to try a place other than downtown where they serve dumplings, I'd recommend you to go with no expectations.
